Chile v. Mexico

Ricardo came to town and we went with him to see Chile womp on Mexico in a friendly game of futból. It was a very, um, cultural experience. Those who's first language was English was limited to us Joneses, I think. We sat with one of two small sections of Chilenos. Kinda fun. Don't get me wrong, I had to force myself to stare at the soccer field for more than 10 seconds at a time, but the whole experience was unique and Kalin, Nate, Roo and Ash will remember it for a long time.

Here are some iPhone pics:

Prop 8

So I'm out there on a street corner today with some friends holding Yes On Prop 8 signs because we have this whacky and unpopular idea that a man should only marry a woman... and what do we get?

Well.... maybe 60-70% of the responders were favorable - waves, smiles, thumbs up, honking horns.

But the rest... dude. I've never been flipped off and "F U'd" more in such a short period in all my life. I was called a hater. I had a woman scream that she was a lesbian to me. Andrea Brown had some girl pull over, run over to her, and yell at her, trying to engage. Andrea was nice, but as the girl asked "what religion are you, Christian?",  Andrea just held up her sign and attended to her duty.  The girl walked  off, seeing that Andrea wasn't about to engage her in a yelling match.

My favorite was the girl leaning over the driver with a big double bird and screaming FU. I waved and smiled. She clearly thought "no, I'm flipping you off idiot, can't you see? why are you smiling and waving", so she more vigorously double flipped and FU'd me.

Dang. Who's hating? We're just out there being friendly expressing our views in a very non confrontational way. People came at use like we were the devil himself. Talk about lack of tolerance. They can't seem to "tolerate" that we believe a family should be normal. Oh crap, I implied that a man marrying a man isn't normal... Now I'll be called a bigot.

At first it was kinda painful. You know me, I don't like it when people aren't pleased with me. But eventually it was amusing. I'd just smile and wave more.

Interesting thing was the demographic... In general, the No on 8 screamers with chronically erect middle fingers tended to be young, unkempt, white trashy, loser types driving junkers. The Yes on 8 crowd was predominantly the other end of the spectrum.

About This Blog

I'm trying to figure this out.  I've got a live journal, a facebook, a my space, 2 websites, and an iPhoto gallery.

Why do I need a blog again?  I need a compelling reason.  I don't maintain any of the above, and I ask myself, would this be any different?

Lets find out.
